Power Jack Cable Repair

I was a bit lazy in getting pictures for this. You'll have to read :(

I bought this "broken" laptop; the battery was nearly dead, and the charger wouldn't work.

The most obvious thing to check would be the power supply adapter. It is composed of two pieces: a cord and an adapter.

First step is testing the cord. This is simple, it's just a cord. Power Jack Cable Repair | Tammam Nima The multimeter readings range from 122 volts to 127 volts, which is good (we expect something around 120).

Next step is to test the adapter. The adapter is supposed to output 19 volts (according to the attached label). Power Jack Cable Repair | Tammam Nima The multimeter readings range from 3 volts to 6 volts. So the adapter must be (part of) the problem.

I order a replacement adapter. This should solve the problem, right?

WRONG

The new adapter has multimeter readings of around 20 volts (no pictures). I plug it into the laptop and it still does not work. I better investigate.

I take the laptop apart.
